Two Aermacchi MB-339CD advanced jet trainers of the Italian Air Force visited Malta International Airport on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, before departing the following morning after an overnight stop. The aircraft involved were MM55070 and MM55074, operating under the military callsigns IAM6141 and IAM6140.
The MB-339CD is an upgraded version of the Italian-designed MB-339 trainer, featuring a digital cockpit and modernised avionics to support advanced pilot training. The type has served the Italian Air Force in its training role and has also been used by the Frecce Tricolori aerobatic display team, although the MB-339CD variant is distinct from the MB-339A aircraft used by the team. The visit provided another opportunity to see the Italian Air Force’s long-serving jet trainer operating at Malta International Airport, a regular destination for military aircraft transiting the central Mediterranean.
