My latest feature takes a look at the legendary Mil Mi-24V Hind and its remarkable service with Polish Army Aviation. Following my recent visit to the 56th Air Base at Latkowo, the article explores more than four decades of Mi-24 operations in Poland, from its introduction during the Cold War to its continued service alongside NATO forces today.
The feature also looks at the men and women who have kept these ageing attack helicopters operational, and the important role the Mi-24 has played in the development of Poland’s attack helicopter capability.
With the Boeing AH-64 Apache now beginning to take over the role, the Mi-24’s long service career is entering its final chapter. Featuring photography captured during my time at Latkowo, the article documents these remarkable helicopters while they remain operational and offers a look at the people and history behind one of Europe’s last operational Hind fleets.
